Assistant Principal accepts new job

Assistant+Principal+accepts+new+job

The school’s administration will have a new look next year as Assistant Principal Ray Winkler has accepted the position of Principal at Lakeside Middle School in Little Elm. The transition from middle school to high school will be a familiar change that Winkler has had much experience with.

“I spent 14 years in middle school before I came to high school so I understand middle school really well,” Winkler said. “The kids are all the same, they want to learn and they want to do good things, so the way you talk to high school kids is very similar to the way you talk to middle school kids.”

Winkler has made a big impact in the district over the years. He has assumed the positions of Assistant Principal, Associate Principal, as well as the Fine Arts department head for grades K-12.

“This has been a great experience for me. I’ve learned a bunch through teachers and students this year and I’m looking forward to taking that to my next school,” Winkler said.

Although he is sad about leaving the district, Winkler looks forward to where this opportunity will lead him in his career.

“I’m going to miss the kids and the teachers here. The family atmosphere, the way that we work together to raise every kid up is very unusual and I hope I can replicate that at my next job,” Winkler said. “It’s going to be a challenge and I look forward to the challenge.”

Liz Schasel has yet to introduce herself in a staff biography without a joke about being vertically-challenged, and wouldn’t feel comfortable starting her senior year without continuing the short-lived tradition (there it is). Ready for the multitude of adventures this year has to offer, Liz has mentally prepared herself to sacrifice sleep for the success of her many extracurriculars which include The Red Ledger, Relay For Life committee, school and club soccer, Key Club, NHS, and the Dallas Swing Dance Society. She also tutors adorable children and works at Pie Five where she is an acclaimed pizza architect. In her free time, Liz spontaneously explodes into billions of particles, injuring those within a 50 mile radius. Luckily for mankind, Liz has never experienced free time, as this tragic event has yet to occur. Thrilled to have one last year’s worth of Modern Epic Poems to write (self-proclaimed epics by the modern definition, not by literary standards), Liz is ready to embark on her third consecutive year as editor of The Red Ledger and looks forward to everything her wonderful, dedicated, bacon-crazed staff will accomplish.

Ray truly cares about all youth and parents. This is not good, but understood as other children need his help. Best of luck Ray! Stacy

    A Sad PersonMay 16, 2012 at 10:20 pm

Ray Winkler my not have been liked by all the students, but he is any amazing person who can give an incredible about of advice. He is always there to assist you and make sure you get the results you are looking for. He strives for perfection and has changed the school a lot since Dr Goddard left. It won’t be the same next year. Lovejoy is his home. He will be greatly missed.
