After winning the 5A state championship in the girls pole vault, junior Grace Ridgeway will turn her focus to the Texas Meet of Champions. The meet will take place at Lovejoy High School and will start on Saturday with events ranging from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

The Texas Meet of Champions will have more than 40 teams ranging from all different parts of Texas to compete in the meet. Athletes receive an automatic invitation if if they are a state champion from one of Texas’ five athletic leagues.

Muscle Milk will distribute products to athletes and Michael Johnson Performance will serve as a recovery center at the meet.

Last weekend, Ridgeway won the 5A state championship with a vault of 12-3.

Grace did great at the state meet; any time you can win the state championship that exceeds the coaches expectations,” girls track coach Logan Kelly said. “All things went well for Grace and she was fortunate to walk away with the state title.”

Ridgeway said she felt confident heading into the state meet.

“My seeded place was eighth out of nine vaulters because of regionals, but I thought I would end up getting third place due to our PR’s,” Ridgeway said.

At the conclusion of the girls vaulting event last weekend at the state meet, Ridgeway was overwhelmed with excitement.

“I was shocked after I won and actually had a hard time on focusing on my next vault,” Ridgeway said.

Ridgeway will compete in the pole vault event at the Meet of Champions at 1:30 pm on Saturday.

“Going to the Meet of Champions is always fun, hopefully I can set a personal record and win the title as well,” Ridgeway said.
