Throughout the past month, the theatre program has been working on their upcoming show: Attack of the Pom Pom Zombies by Stephen Murray, which will be performed this Thursday and Saturday night at 7:30 p.m.

The play is about cheerleaders, jocks, poetry, hippies, nerds, and a biker gang in the 50s, located at the beach or at the surf shop.

“All the cheerleaders turn into zombies from a nuclear waste power plant, and the nerds save the day,” assistant stage manager Claudia Campbell said.

Since the auditorium isn’t finished, the theatre department had to be creative when deciding on a performance venue.

“The very gracious and giving administration has allowed us to do this production in the cafeteria, specifically in the commons area,” technical director Timothy Doyle said. “We’re building a temporary stage out there and we’re going to have set up chairs in the commons area.”

Directors and students are working together to make the show come together. Everyday after school, both actors and technicians stay several hours late for rehearsals.

“We’re trying to crunch in time,” senior Ryan Allen said. “I am partially a student director because I used to be an actor in the show, and then I dropped out for personal reasons. So now I am helping out directing with the show.”

Even though the name suggests the play is scary and dramatic, this production is not what it seems. All ages are welcome to come see the show, and Doyle added that there is nothing scary about it.

“It’s really open for all audiences,” Doyle said. “By the description it sounds like a drama but it’s not. It’s a kooky, funny, crazy, campy comedy with big characters and hilarity happening throwing out the whole thing.”
