Looking Deeper

The Red Ledger: Why did you decide to attend A&M over other schools?

Ben Omonira: It was the greatest fit for me, and they have a great network.

TRL: What has the transition from (where you’re from) to Texas been like?

BO: It has been bittersweet. There are times where I hate being different, and other times where I value my difference.

TRL: What was the reasoning behind coming to Texas?

BO: Greater opportunities. I came to live the American Dream.

TRL: What’s the difference between European culture and American culture?

BO: Americans are jokers, but they go big or go home. The Euro vibe is a bit more serious and practical.

TRL: How did you become interested in swimming? Do you plan on swimming in college?

BO: I was a chubby kid and I got inspired by Michael Phelps. I can’t swim at college because I have a heart condition.

TRL: What is one thing you have taken away from your experience here at Lovejoy?

BO: Doesn’t matter what people think; go for what you want. Make sure to value and show love (joy) to others.

TRL: What are you involved in here at Lovejoy and why?

BO: Stuco – I wanted to have a say in the planning of school events. NHS – I wanted to get a nice-looking resume at first, but I do it to officially volunteer for the things that I wish to do in the future. It holds me accountable.

TRL: What are your responsibilities as senior class president?

BO: I have to organize Baccalaureate, Senior Gift, and the Class of 2016 Reunion.
