The various sounds of summer are over, but the sounds of construction around school won’t be coming to a close until the end of next year.

“The East Classroom Addition (B-Hall) and STEM wing is projected to be completed by August 2016,” assistant superintendent of operations Dennis Womack said. “The West Fine Arts Addition, the multi-purpose dance studio, is projected to be completed by the end of Spring Break 2016.”

The record-breaking rains of this past spring may have caused some delay on the date of completion for these projects.

“I currently believe the East Classroom Addition and the West Fine Arts Addition will meet their target completion dates,” Womack said. “The rain did delay these two areas, but there is enough time between now and the completion dates to make up for these early delays.”

As football season is drawing near, the new press box is not yet finished due to rain delays earlier in the spring, which impacted the first varsity football game on August 29th.

“The press box was already on a very tight construction schedule and the six-week delay due to the rain has been very hard to make up,” Womack said. “The construction firm, Lee Lewis, is working very hard to complete the press box.”

With the exception of football, little will be impacted by the ongoing construction at the start of the year.

“There will be very little impact on parking,” Principal Chris Mayfield said. “The only area that will be impacted is the teacher parking lot on the east side of the high school. That is being used for construction headquarters currently and will continue until it is completed.”

A small impact for classes will be the sounds from construction, but the administrators are working with the builders to lessen the level of noise.

“The only potential impact for classes would be some of the noise students may hear from construction,” Mayfield said. “We are working with the builders to minimize that.”

Many students are looking forward to the completion of the various projects around school.

“I am really excited for the new Majestics dance studio to be finished,” sophomore Izzie Muirhead said. “We have a huge team and the new space will be such a huge help.”
