Getting into college is more competitive than ever, leading students to look for new ways to improve their scores on the SAT or ACT. In light of the newfound interest in improvement, C2 Education Tutoring has opened in Allen with the offer of a complimentary event.

“The free testing event is a limited time offer where we give students a free SAT or ACT test  along with a complimentary consultation on the scores,” C2 tutor Meng Cheng said. “That means we have percentage breakdowns on the different kinds of questions they got correct or not. These include questions on reading comprehension, vocabulary, grammar, geometry, Algebra I and II, etc.”

Many students are interested and are currently enrolled in out of school prep classes.

“Once I became a junior and saw how competitive people were getting about their grades I knew I had to do something,” junior Kerry Joiner said. “I opted to start taking SAT and ACT prep classes since I had seen with my older brother how much they can help.”

C2, however, is trying to distinguish itself by offering help in ways other tutoring services do not.

“When a student enrolls, they get their own blue book and red binder,” Cheng said. “In these records they get a personalized education that documents each two hour class they take.

The tutor and director look over these records before and after each class to make sure the lessons are completed properly. Then after each weeks-long period of tutoring, we give our students interim tests to measure their improvement to make sure they are doing better.”

In the effort to provide as much flexibility as possible, C2 allows students to pick the course that fits best with their schedule and price range.

“Our basic enrollment packages are 30,50, 100 hours,” Cheng said. “These usually take three – nine months for students to complete the basic programs.”

The program’s success rates are also something to compare to competing tutoring firms.

“C2’s success rate is a 360 point increase on the SAT, or about 5 points for the ACT, on average,” Cheng said.  “Keep in mind these are average increases, so at another North Texas location, we have students who have gone up 700 points or more on the SAT.”

Many students are interested in such improvement since higher SAT/ACT scores make them a better applicant for colleges.

“You can’t get into a college based on SAT or ACT scores alone, you have to also have the grades to back them up,” college counselor Addison Snyder said. “However, it definitely makes a student more interesting to colleges if they have higher test scores.”
