On Saturday, Dec. 5, the fine arts department will host the Fine Arts Festival. This community event will consist of performances from each department as well as art displays.

Fine arts are a major part of the school’s activity. In order to commemorate that, every year the school hosts a Fine Arts Festival for kids from kindergarten to twelfth grade. This year’s festival will be on December 6 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.

“I hope the patrons who attend the festival will take time to not only enjoy the program in which their student participates, but also, spend some of the day perusing the visual art galleries, watching other performances while enjoying the delicious treats provided by our booster clubs,” Majestics director Fela Lowrance said. “Our programs are absolutely incredible and showcase student talents at their highest abilities.”

All of the different categories within the fine arts program will be performing, from voice to visual art.

“[The purpose of] the Fine Arts Festival is to highlight excellence in the fine arts across the district,” head choir director Bethany Stuard said. “Hopefully [my students] will have a broader audience for their performances and their hard work and great singing will be appreciated by the Lovejoy community.”

The intermediate, middle, and high school orchestras will also demonstrate their skills by playing Christmas music.

“Since we are an ensemble-based class, having the opportunity to perform for an audience is always wonderful, but the Fine Arts Festival is also a time for us to give back to the community that supports our fine arts programs so well,” middle school orchestra director Amy Gearhart said. “It is also a great time for some area charities, and watching the community come together to celebrate Fine Arts.”

Another performance will be by the high school dance team. Both the Majestics, and the “Ladies in Waiting” will present their dance routines.

“The Majestics are ‘in between seasons’ and in the process of learning new material for our Spring Show in April,” Lowrance said. “We will showcase our new pieces and visit with our audience members about what we do in Majestics, let them see how our growth process occurs.”

There will also be an art gallery where student work will be hung on the walls for everyone to enjoy.

“I love that our Lovejoy Arts faculty has the passion to teach and drive our students,” Lowrance said. “I want the people in our community to see what we do. I am very excited to host the festival and showcase our students and teachers!”

Vivien Zhou
Vivien Zhou, Staff Reporter
Somewhere over the rainbow, Vivien Zhou is a freshman. Quiet and shy, she usually spends most of her time reading action and adventure fiction books or talking to some of her few friends. Some of her favorite books are the Percy Jackson and Harry Potter series. Although Vivien isn’t the sporty type, she loves ice skating on the weekends and playing in the marching band during school. She recently joined the Wind Symphony, and is now parading her clarinet to the beat of the music. Not only does Vivien play one instrument, but she plays two. Both the piano and clarinet have given her a love for music and classical composers.
Scott Kelley
Scott Kelley, Staff Reporter
The notorious Scott Kelley is a legend in the oh so mighty class of 2015. This is one marvelous man. A simple man. Hailing from the upper east coast of Boston, Massachusetts, he is the illest, the realest, the swankest, the trillest. Ladies call him divine, and for fools he has no time. If you’re chasing the money, you’re chasing Scotty Dolla Sign. Also, he responds to the name Goldilocks because his flow is almost identical to hers. If somebody were to call him arrogant, he would reply, “you’re probably right”. Strolling down the halls of Lovejoy High School, you will notice his over emphasized limp, as well as the two babes he has wrapped around each arm. When he is not making money or charming the sweethearts, he is actually Superman and is saving the world. Or just simply flirting with your girl. This universe was blessed with his presence, so please.. when you see him out and about, shake his hand and boast your love and appreciation. And yes, he does allow a single soft stroking of his hair. Thank you Dolla Sign all hail Dolla Sign.

Alexa / Lexa Mapes is senior who will fall asleep in the most inappropriate of places—including the Coliseum in Rome. In a Hard Rock Café in Paris, she was locked inside a bathroom and forgotten. After the third time you've repeated yourself, she still hasn't heard you. Once, upon forgetting Michael Koval's name, she caught his attention by shouting  "eyebrows!" Half of the time she asks a store employee for help, they are not a store employee. Alexa is constantly saying goodbye to someone and realizing they're going in the same direction. Her immediate go-to in awkward situations is to pretend to be texting the "friends she has, but just aren't there." She has successfully walked into an automatic door on multiple occasions. She is, the most awkward girl in the world.

Mary Grado is finally a senior at LHS, although most adults assume that she is 15 (she’s actually 18). This is her first year on the newspaper staff and she is super excited to be a part of such a fantastic program! Some like to call her lazy, but she really just enjoys relaxing, sleeping, and not having to exert a lot of physical movement. The simple things in life make her happy, such as smoothies, her neighborhood park, big t-shirts, good music, Mediterranean food, pink clouds, nice people, and MOST importantly, her dog Ginger. She really likes the name Rosalita and tries to embrace her Mexican roots as much as she can. She is a music enthusiast, and although some would think that she grew up in the hood due to the rap she listens to, she also really loves alternative, indie, and everything else but country (don’t play it anywhere near her). And finally, yes, she has small feet, she’s fully aware. :)
