On the border of funny and entertaining

Cameron Stapleton, Staff Reporter

The Borderlands games are filled with witty humor, great plot, randomized guns galore, and best of all, they never take themselves seriously. Just when a serious plot twist comes along, a character will crack a joke and the moment will be defused. The third installment of the series, Borderlands: The Presequel, is no different.

Chronologically, the game takes place between Borderlands and Borderlands 2, hence the name “pre-sequel.” There are four new Vault Hunter classes for players to enjoy: Wilhelm the Enforcer, Athena the Gladiator, Nisha the Lawbringer, and everyone’s favorite, Claptrap as the comic relief character.  The plot revolves around these four characters becoming assassins for the Hyperion Corporation, run by Borderlands 2 antagonist, Handsome Jack. It takes some getting used to, but the plot is pretty good once players get into it. Although the story is intriguing and well written, it is executed in a very slow fashion.

The graphics are the same comic book-like graphics from the first two games, updated only slightly to make up for the two years of innovation between this installment and Borderlands 2.  The plot is up to snuff with the first two games, and is definitely just as interesting. It is worth every penny, but mostly just for fans of the earlier games. Newcomers will likely not enjoy the story, as a basic knowledge of characters from the preceding games gives the game some flare that would not be present otherwise.
