An early morning fire on August 13 in the Sonic on stacy road left the building in shambles, and a complete reconstruction is underway.

After fire destroyed the interior of the Stacy Road Sonic on August 13, repair work is currently underway with a re-opening more than a month away.

“We have just began our repairs so that should give you a rough idea of the timeframe,” Lonnie Harrison of Harrison Construction said. “The damage is pretty serious. Not much roof damage, but most of the internals will have to be replaced, along with the wires and electrical systems.”

A fire report from the Allen Fire Department says the fire began with an electrical ignition that lit cooking oil in a pot. The pot caught on fire and the fire spread. It was listed as an unintentional accident, as it occurred without anyone at the station and when there was no reasonable concern about a fire hazard.

In the meantime, Sonic did its best to find jobs for the out-of-work employees at the Stacy Road location.

“The employees have been re-employed at our Garland site,” Stacy Road Sonic manager Bob Brown said. “They will hopefully be moved back as soon as the repairs are done, but until then they will be working over on Preston.”

Below are photos highlighting the damage from the fire.

About the Contributors
Matthew Norwood
Matthew Norwood, Staff Writer
Matthew Norwood is a school senior and newspaper sophomore. He keeps himself busy, and likes to do other things to give himself an idea of what he should be looking out for while on the newspaper staff. Extracurriculars include debate, quiz bowl, and history bowl, and he’s been in both football and orchestra during prior years of high school. When he isn’t at school, Matthew is probably out adventuring with friends. He has a knack for urban exploration, especially enjoying abandoned places. He may also be at home with his three cats or two dogs, or simply eating. Matthew writes mostly opinions, which are generally about random things which occur in his life or the beliefs that he has. Most of these beliefs come from debate, as he has to deal with a lot of different philosophies while studying for tournaments. He would love to branch out and do new things, as he thinks he can do a lot for the newspaper and improve from his impact last year. Photography would be an option, or even something such as features or sports, basically anywhere you can put him to work and make him useful. On his last year, Matthew has a lot to do. College applications are not the most fun thing in the world, and for whatever reason he is taking more AP classes now than in junior year, with six to tally. Nevertheless, Matthew is happy to be a part of the staff and hopes he can do his best for its already esteemed credibility.

Nathalie Kroll, Staff Reporter/ Copy Editor
Although oftenly mistaken for a freshman, Nathalie Kroll is a senior at Lovejoy High School. Nathalie prefers the nickname G-Nat, but is okay with just being called G. The owner of a 15k follower tumblr blog, Nathalie is online famous. This does not do her any good in her personal life, however. Her tweet ‘Plants wearing Pants’ has over 2,000 retweets and has been stolen by many parody accounts. Nathalie is a pretentious music snob. If she wears a shirt with a band name on it, odds are, she cannot name five songs. Due to her lack of athletic capabilities, Nathalie is participating in P.E. during her senior year. She is very upset about it. If you were to say something borderline inappropriate, Nathalie would be the first person to say, “That’s What She Said”. Because of this, she often gets reprimanded in the newspaper class for corrupting the younglings. Nathalie thinks that she’s hysterical, but most of the time, no one actually hears her. Or sees her. No one really pays attention to Nathalie. If Nathalie were to walk in a group of three down the sidewalk, she would awkwardly be left behind. In attept to help her friend with a Diet Coke addiction, Nathalie became addicted to Coke. Most of the shirts Nathalie wears, she has stolen from boys.  Nathalie cannot Skitz. What Nathalie lacks in height she makes up for in no way at all. Nathalie accidentally befriended a rapper once. She also accidentally memorized all of his songs. On accident. When it comes to driving, Nathalie fulfills every negative stereotype towards female drivers. Nathalie has no college plans, she intends on ‘winging it’. If you were to ask Nathalie a basic math problem, she would stare blankly at you and simply ask, “huh?” Being from Sweden, Nathalie is an individual of few words that barely make sense.
